Natural, long-term focus areas

Nowadays, quite rightly, there is a great deal of focus on TC continuous kilns. These are economical, versatile and flexible lumber kilns, offering a combination of high capacity and the right quality, with the result that they have become a central element in a number of major sawmill investments.

We have frequently emphasized the fact that TC continuous kilns have the potential to change the working procedures at an entire sawmill, and when our customers tell us about their experiences, this only strengthens our conviction. This is true both at home in Sweden and in other parts of the world. At the same time, we feel that the approach to lumber drying that characterizes Nordic sawmills provides a firm foundation to stand on – from the way lumber is handled to the practice of actively working to govern the process.

This makes it easier to learn about new findings and working methods.
The current market situation is another issue that is the focus of much attention. Construction has slowed down sharply as a result of the economic uncertainty, and this has led to a decrease in the margins for many players in the sawmill industry. At the same time, just as before, we are seeing a great deal of confidence that the market situation will eventually improve this time as well.

This mindset continues to impress both me and my colleagues. It is a privilege to work with a sector where the long-term perspective wins out, even in uncertain times.

Significant short-term variations can affect our industry, yet despite this, interest in wood is increasing over time. This is particularly the case when it comes to wood that is produced responsibly. We also believe that the demands for sustainability will increase. For example, aware customers will place new demands when it comes to the methods employed for reporting back on operations.

We want to help out here. We have conducted a wide-ranging review of our offering, looking at issues such as climate footprint and the work environment, in order to provide a comprehensive picture of how we are performing. In terms of climate impact, our early decision to build in stainless steel rather than aluminum represents a better way of constructing lumber kilns.

We are continuing to develop our facilities. Our new and more efficient fan motors are a great addition, making a difference when it comes to energy consumption as well as to the service life of the motors. As regards control, we are continuing our journey of developing efficient ways to manage the drying process for all types of facilities, from batch kilns to TC models.

Our aim, as always, is to increase the use of wood.
