At Ligna we will tell you about the new generation of continuous kilns and how the new features in our control system Valmatics 4.0 improve both drying and financial results for sawmills around the world.
Simply put, it is about next-level optimization that makes the most of every board, but also about sustainability from design to high-quality processes.
The TC Kiln
Valutec is the only company offering TC kilns. A kiln type that comes with distinguishing features such as low energy consumption, high flexibility and superior capacity. It gives the operator the possibility to create the ultimate drying process with unlimited freedom to mix dimensions, minimal moisture content variation and reduced risk of checking. Annual capacity can reach 125 MMBF with target moisture contents down to around 12-18%. The principle is based on the timber package being fed length-wise through zones in which the air circulates laterally across the drying channel. This enables the separate regulation of the climate in different zones according to a schedule that comes very close to the ideal schedule of a batch kiln. The TC continuous kiln, as well as all our other kilns, is built in stainless steel and comes with IE 5 engines and heat recovery which makes it the most sustainable kiln on the market. 7
“The leap in technology has fundamentally changed the way of working at many sawmills. Higher flexibility creates significant advantages, particularly when it comes to planning. Competition is extremely tough in the sawmill business, where margins are tight. So, customers in this sector rely on high efficiency and quality,” says John Karbin, Managing Director, Valutec.
The TC-kiln has quickly become a favourite among sawmills around the world and during the past year Valutec has sold and installed TC-kilns to North America, Central Europe and Scandinavia.
Improvements
Meeting sawmills to learn more about their current situation is incredibly important to us. We will always make it a priority to visit your sawmill while participating in as many exhibitions as we can. In addition to learning more about the situation at the sawmills, meetings are also an opportunity for us to share the new improvements we offer. One such improvement is that we have refined the actual moisture content calculation model in our control system Valmatics 4.0. That means that we can estimate the final moisture content with an accuracy of approximately one percent. This model, built on artificial intelligence, enables automatic adjustments of temperature and fans. We have also introduced additional electricity and energy-saving features.
These advancements lead directly to a more cost-effective drying process and end products of the highest quality. Additionally, we have thoroughly assessed our sustainability performance, ensuring that every sawmill can be confident that investing in a kiln from Valutec aligns with their climate goals. Many view our industry as a leader in the climate transition, and rightly so, in our opinion.
Patent-pending solution
Finally, we will present our new patent-pending energy solution “Closed Loop Drying”. A revolutionary feature that means that Valutec will be able to offer the most energy-efficient wood drying on the market!
