It’s a long way to the top if you wanna rock’n’ roll

Almost to the day it’s now 3 years ago since I wrote a small story about my family’s and my arrival in Canada. We’ve experienced so much during that time that I could write a book about it. Fortunately, so far it has been a success story which wasn’t at all clear when our journey started. As you can imagine it was a pretty bold move to relocate from Germany to Canada with my wife and three young kids, especially since in terms of Valutec Continuous Kilns, it was uncharted territory.

For our children it turned out to be very easy because the school system in Canada does a terrific job when it comes to welcoming newcomers. The Canadian friendliness and openness might be a cliché but it’s a true one and it makes it so much easier to start a new life here.

For my wife and me I can say that we’ve arrived too. Do we miss Germany? Yes, we do. But every time we’re back, we look forward flying “home” to Vancouver. And how could you not love this beautiful city which combines the sea and the mountains so tremendously?

On the business front it has been a “Long and winding road”, to stay with a song analogy. I’ve been traveling so much that I’ve probably seen more of Canada and the USA than many Canadians and Americans.  I’ve had interesting encounters with wonderful people of our industry. But sometimes it has felt like I’ve been battling against windmills and just when I thought I’d gotten my message across I realized I was still at the very beginning.

And now, with two continuous kilns sold to Pleasant River Lumber, Valutec has better chances than ever to succeed in North America. Everyone who’s interested in state-of-the-art continuous lumber drying technology is welcome to contact me and I’ll arrange a field trip so that you can see our installations and experience continuous lumber drying greatness with your own eyes.

Have a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
