Leader: The implicit benefits of Valmatics

The first quarter is already at an end and here at Valutec we are seeing increasing interest in investing among sawmills. This includes the Siljan Group, who you can read more about in this newsletter. Quite clearly, there is a great need for both batch kilns and continuous kilns. I believe and feel that it is a positive trend that we are seeing drying parks that may look hugely different from one another – they are, and should be, adapted to the production process at the individual sawmill.

Wood is, of course, one of the best responses to how to confront the climate challenges here and now. When we replace fossil material with bio-based alternatives, there is an immediate climate gain, provided that the timber comes from sustainable forestry operations.

At the same time, the very fact that wood is bio-based is something that makes timber drying such a big challenge. Our kilns handle boards and planks with widely-differing initial values. This is what we need to be able to tackle with robust and smart installations equipped with really good control systems.

A further benefit is that the assurance represented by our control system yields time to continue to develop other elements. It is perhaps a benefit that we don’t talk about, but for most people time is both money and a commodity in short supply.

We are also, of course, looking forward to meeting the whole of the sawmill world at Ligna in Hannover, Germany, on 22-26 May. We will as usual be travelling down with a team of experts, ready to discuss solutions to the timber-drying-related challenges you encounter in your processes. We will also be offering the possibility of a virtual tour of a TC continuous kiln at Ligna. In addition to being an experience in itself, it also provides a tangible picture of how the facility is constructed and operates.

Regards,
Ingo Wallocha
